The originally planned DKK 2.7 million (around EUR 360,000) will instead be spent on improvements in Nuuk. The capital Nuuk (Danish Godthåb) will have its 300th birthday in 2028. This is a time to celebrate the development. Ludvigsen said that if others felt the need to celebrate the arrival of Egede, for example a church or a museum, they would be happy to do so.
Earlier Egede anniversaries were celebrated even bigger. The Danish royal family came to Greenland for the 200th and for the 250th there was a new church in Nuuk. But the mood has partly changed. As you saw in the vote on the statue, there are still many who hold on to Egede and want his role in Greenlandic history to be recognized. Others are more critical. A new association, Nalik Kalaallit Nunaat, now wants to actively promote discussions about the colonial era and find new solutions for the future.
