Three Laughing Kookaburras Sculpture

Highlight • Monument

This sculpture references one of Australia’s most recognisable native birds, known for its loud territorial call that resembles human laughter. Set among the surrounding bushland, the artwork ties into the birdlife commonly found around Mount Coot-tha and wider Brisbane. The kookaburra has long been associated with the Australian bush, and large-scale kookaburra sculptures have become a recurring feature in Australian public art and roadside culture.

West Ithaca Creek

Highlight • River

West Ithaca Creek winds through shaded gullies and dense bushland on the lower slopes of Mt Coot-tha Reserve, flowing through one of the wetter creek corridors in Brisbane’s western suburbs. Along the Eugenia Circuit, the creek is crossed by small footbridges and drainage lines surrounded by palms, ferns, and thicker vegetation than the drier ridgelines above.

Mt Coot-tha Reserve

Highlight • Forest

Mt Coot-tha Reserve is a large natural area on the western edge of Brisbane known for its bushland, scenic lookouts, and popular attractions, including the Brisbane Botanic Gardens and summit precinct. There is an extensive network of walking and cycling tracks in the reserve that wind through dry eucalypt forest and pockets of subtropical vegetation, connecting key areas across the mountain. With shaded bushland, abundant wildlife, and occasional views of the city, it offers plenty of options for outdoor recreation to immerse yourself in nature.

Eugenia Circuit

Highlight (Segment) • Trail

Eugenia Circuit loops through quieter sections of Mt Coot-tha Reserve, combining narrow bush tracks, shaded gullies, and rolling forested terrain beneath spotted gums and ironbarks. The circuit passes through several creek crossings and denser vegetation around West Ithaca Creek, giving parts of the walk a cooler and more enclosed feel than the drier ridgelines elsewhere in the reserve. After rain, muddy patches and flowing water make this one of the more atmospheric circuits close to Brisbane.

Simpson Falls

Highlight • Waterfall

Simpson Falls is a beautiful small cascade flowing over rocky ledges along a forested creek, and is most impressive after periods of rain. There are several walking tracks and picnic areas nearby, making it an ideal stop for a break or a scenic lunch while exploring the Mount Coot-tha Loop and surrounding bushland trails.
