The Ysselsteyn War Cemetery is the only German war cemetery in the Netherlands.
The cemetery was commissioned by the Dutch government in 1946 not far from the town of Venray in the province of Limburg and covers an area of approximately 28 hectares. 87 war dead from the First World War and almost 32,000 war dead from the Second World War have found their final resting place here.
The vast majority of war dead are German soldiers who did their military service during the war. But also SS members and war criminals, Dutch collaborators, Wehrmacht volunteers from other countries and some civilians, including women and children, were buried in Ysselsteyn.
The war graves can be visited daily. The cemetery is wheelchair accessible.

In the stream valley of the Bakelse Aa or Vlier a square keep was built on the east side of the Haageind before 1383, which was later named Old House, Small Castle and Old Castle. During the same period, a water mill on the Bakel Aa north of the Klein Kasteel was also built. This castle served as the residence of Mr van Deurne, owner of the glory.

The Klein Kasteel, which was still called Old House in the Middle Ages, was built as the successor of a residence on the Ter Vloet estate, located downstream along the Vlier in the hamlet of Kerkeind. The relocation upstream to the Haageind must have taken place in the second half of the 14th century. The Klein Kasteel nowadays consists of a 14th-century keep, a 17th or 18th-century low farm annex and an attached white manor house from 1857. During the renovation in 1857, the old lower court became a farm perpendicular to the building on the site of the mansion, and an extension of the medieval tower demolished. The mansion was built on the site of the old court. The access to the site, which previously ran through the Heerendijk (that is now the driveway of the water mill), was then shifted to the Haageind side. A fire on 24 September 1944 caused some damage, but could be put out by the then owner Pieter Wiegersma in time. [2]
Building plans for a detached guesthouse behind the Klein Kasteel were unanimously rejected in 2008 by Deurnese politics on the basis of archaeological and cultural-historical considerations, although the zoning plan allows an extension. [3] In 2010 a new plan for a guesthouse at the Klein Kasteel was drawn up. Deurnian politics has not yet decided on this. [4]

Gevaert Willemszoon van Doerne is the oldest known lord of Deurne who lived there with certainty, around 1380-1390.
