Rossall Point Observation Tower

Highlight • Monument

At 46 feet (14 m) high, the Rossall Point Observation Tower boasts panoramic views of Blackpool, the Irish Sea, the Forest of Bowland Fells and the South Lakeland Fells. Completed in March 2013, it also gives bird watchers a unique vantage across Morecambe Bay, as the tides dictate the activity.

A gallery on the ground floor gives information about the local area and its wildlife. The tower is open to the public between set times. For more information, check: wyre.gov.uk/info/200484/wyres_coastline/1291/rossall_point

Beach Lighthouse (Fleetwood)

Highlight • Monument

The marvellous sandstone lighthouse stands as a sentinel for the Wyre Estuary and Morecambe Bay at Rossall Point. It is 44 feet (13 m) high and first shone its light on 1st December 1840.

Architecturally unusual, its colonnaded square base, square tower and octagonal lantern are of a Neoclassical style. It is Grade II-listed.

Rossall Point Observation Tower

Highlight • Monument

A jutting peninsula formed by the Irish Sea, Morecambe Bay and the Wyre Estuary, Rossall Point is a glorious section of windswept coast. The old port town of Fleetwood occupies the area and is home to a handsome sandstone lighthouse and an observation tower.

This stretch is particularly attractive to bird lovers. Ringed plover, knot, sanderling and turnstone are common species here. At high tide, many roost off the narrow beach. When the waters retreat, large flocks can be seen feeding offshore.
