Beacon Hill Gravel Track

Amazing section of fire track just below the High point of Beacon Hill - The views over the Wye Valley and the Forest of Dean beyond are amazing. Part way along is a elevated bench , for a great place to stop for snack and take in the views.

Cleddon Falls is a pretty cascade of crystal-clear water nestled within a serene and atmospheric woodland. The paths around the falls can be muddy at times, especially in winter, so care is needed.

Bigsweir Bridge

The elegant cast-iron road bridge was built in 1827 as part of the new turnpike road constructed up the lower part of the Wye valley between Chepstow and Monmouth. The bridge connects the English and Welsh sides of the river, with an abandoned but recently restored toll house on the Welsh side. The bridge comprises a single arch of 50 metres (55 yd) , and was designed by Charles Hollis of London and cast at Merthyr Tydfil. A pair of stone flood arches were added at each end some years later, doubling the length of the bridge. Because of its narrow width, modern traffic using the A466 is controlled by traffic signals at either end.

Bigsweir Bridge became a Grade II* listed structure in 1988. The bridge was repaired, strengthened and repainted in 2010

View from Beacon Hill

Beacon View is the starting point for a couple of walks through the peaceful woodland of Beacon Hill.

Both walks pass through areas of recovering heathland. These open areas were cleared of pine trees to allow the heather to return. Grazing ponies help to keep aggressive species from taking over the heathland.

There are viewpoints along the way to enjoy far-reaching views over the Wye Valley.

Cleddon Falls

A popular attraction the falls can be reached from the top or bottom. An interesting route due to the standing stones at Trellech and the well is the old Llandogo rd to the West of the falls. Others who like the uphill climb amid the far-out woods can approach it via Llandogo off the A466 in the valley below. Whatever the choice the falls and steep sided woodland is a must visit. Stay a while, listen and absorb the water.
