The Lynch, Lyme Regis

Highlight • River

The exquisitely pretty walkway runs alongside the River Lim and flows down to power the Town Mill. It’s a short walk from Lyme Regis centre and a beautiful setting, with the walls of old buildings coming right down to the water.

This whole section of the river, from the mouth to Uplyme, is lovely but the Town Mill and the Lynch have got to be the most charming.

Lyme Regis Seafront

Highlight • Viewpoint

Lyme Regis is an enchanting seaside town that features in the Domesday Book and is home to much history. Set against moody blue cliffs yielding fossilised evidence of life on earth millions of years ago, the town is very tranquil and picturesque at any time of year.

View of the Cobb

Highlight • Trail

As you hike up (or down) the steps here, be sure to admire the unexpected view of the Cobb. With the shimmering sea, the masts in the harbour and the trees around you, it makes for a lovely viewpoint that's easily accessible from the car park below.

The Undercliff National Nature Reserve

Highlight (Segment) • Natural Monument

The Undercliff national nature reserve is a seven-mile stretch of fairly unescapable woodland between Lyme Regis and Axmouth. It's formed in an area of landslip between the solid cliff tops at the edges of fields and the beach below. As such the path that runs through it is changeable as the earth moves. It's a wonderful but committing walk.

Uplyme Watermill

Highlight • Structure

With an old thatched roof and a stunning watermill, this is an incredibly picturesque spot on the River Lim. Dating back to the 18th century, this watermill is no longer in use, but was once fed via a leat by the Lim. This mill also sits on the Devon side of the county border; take just a few steps downriver and you’ll find yourself in Dorset.

It might be the last watermill in Devon, but there’s a working watermill downriver in Lyme Regis.

Lyme Regis to Uplyme Riverside Walk

Highlight (Segment) • River

There is a lovely walk from Lyme Regis to Uplyme. It follows the East Devon Way and the River Lim along quiet roads and riverside trails up the valley. Easy walking mostly but there are a few steps and a narrow bridge.
Very handy if you’re staying at Hook Farm campsite or anywhere else in Uplyme.
