Frampton Obelisk

Highlight • Monument

The obelisk to the south of the village was erected in 1786 as a memorial to James Frampton. It gives him something in common with George III, whose statue on the Esplanade at Weymouth was designed by the same architect, James Hamilton.

The Church of Moreton, UK is St. Nicholas Church, an Anglican church in the Dorset village of Moreton. Cakes are served on the cart that was used to carry T E Lawrence's (aka Lawrence of Arabia) coffin to his final resting place - just a few metres down the road! On the route here you might even ride over the exact spot where he crashed on his Brough Superior Limited motorbike (the exact location remains a mystery but it's reportedly somewhere near Pallington Farm). Some might think he's a fictional character due to all the films made about his life but T E Lawrence was actually a British Intelligence Officer born in Wales but resident in Dorset, who fought alongside Arab guerrilla forces in the Middle East during the First World War. He later worked as an advisor to Winston Churchill and then for the RAF.
