The market town of Penrith, once the capital of Cumbria, is often referred to as 'the Gateway to the Lakes'. This is thanks to its excellent transport links making it a fantastically accessible launch base for adventure.

To the west, the ridgelines of the Far Eastern and Eastern Fells are an enticing prospect, whilst Blencathra's unmistakable saddleback has a 'come hither' look. It's not all about the Lakes though; head east and you've got some of the finest hiking in the Pennines.
