Ruins of St. Mary’s Church, Wilton

Highlight • Monument

Described as a 'quintessential English market town', Wilton is rich in history and home to a wide range of traditional family owned shops, pubs and cafés. The shopping village, located in the old carpet mills, hosts a community of artisans and unique small businesses.

The charter market has been going on for several hundred years here and is still going strong! Market day is every Thursday, beginning early Thursday morning and continuing until mid-afternoon.

Royal Oak Pub

Highlight • Pub

In the summer there is a beer garden across the road and winter a log fire. Gets busy as the food and beers/cider are good. Coffee and snacks and the menu on a sunday normally has roast. If it's a hot day, it's a welcome watering hole, in winter it's a warm haven to heat up cold toes and hands

The Ginger Piggery is closed Sunday and Monday. I pack my own coffee in a flask and stop for a snack 😬

This wonderful section of NCN 24 follows peaceful lanes through idyllic countryside and villages with thatched buildings and cottage gardens. The terrain is gently undulating, so you can get a decent pace going without too much effort. The few cars I did encounter were slow and courteous. A truly fabulous cycle route.
