Sandstone used to be mined in the Lohmgrund. There is currently still an active quarry. During World War II, the paintings from the Dresden Old Masters Picture Gallery were stored in wagons in the former railway tunnel. The Cotta Spitzberg was a triangulation point for the Saxon state survey.
