Exeter Ship Canal shared path

Highlight (Segment) • Trail

The tarmac option following Exeter Ship Canal from the Swing Bridge near Countess Wear, there's also a parallel gravel road through Riverside Valley Park that's accessible by bike if you fancy. A smooth and flat run into town or out, but take care as pedestrians and cyclists share the path here and it can become busy at peak times.

Cockwood Harbour

Highlight • Viewpoint

Cockwood Harbour is a small tidal harbour in Cockwood, a village on the western bank of the Exe Estuary in Devon. It is a popular boating spot with a church, pubs and accommodation. Cockwood Harbour is known for the railway line that runs over the narrow strip of land between the harbour and the sea. The line continues to Dawlish, where it follows the coastline and offers stunning views of the water. Cockwood Harbour is part of the Exe Estuary Trail, a cycle and walking route that follows the River Exe and the canal from Exmouth to Dawlish.

View of the Sea from Dawlish

Highlight • Viewpoint

The railway line hugs the coast at the bottom of the cliff here at Dawlish and bags the best views of the coast, but the road high above still offers a great vista out across the sea.

Haytor Rocks Climb from Bovey Tracey

Highlight (Segment) • Viewpoint

Home to the 2019 National Hill Climb Championships and featured on the Tour of Britain, Haytor is a very well known climb on the fringes of Dartmoor, gaining 1,100 feet (335 m) over its long 3.3 mile (5.4 km) course.

If you love long and steady climbs, this is definitely one for you, and you’ll enjoy the wooded lane giving way to rough and wild moorland as you approach the granite tor at the top. Good luck and enjoy!

Postbridge Clapper Bridge

Highlight • Bridge

This is more a little stop along the way instead of a destination. It has two bridges that are pretty and a little shop. It would be a good starting point to hike onto the moor from as it has parking that has a donation box and allows overnight parking.

Doccombe Climb

Highlight (Segment) • Climb

Fantastic section of road heading up from Dunsford in the Teign Valley, twisting between the trees, or as a descent from Moretonhampstead back towards Exeter.
