From the southern tip, you have a beautiful view of Lake Einfeld.

With its surface area of 168 hectares, it is one of the larger lakes in Schleswig-Holstein.

The lake lies on the watershed of two rivers: the Eider to the north and the Stör to the south. A small inflow flows into the lake from the Dosenmoor, and there are no other significant tributaries. For this reason, the lake is fed primarily by groundwater and precipitation. A main outflow flows into the Aalbek River in the southeast;

to the north, the Steingraben, regulated by a weir, connects Lake Einfeld with Lake Bordesholm, whose waters can flow into the Eider.

On the western shore is the West Bank of Lake Einfeld Nature Reserve.

Approximately 2.4 hectares were declared protected in 1955, and in 1987 it was expanded to its current size of approximately 13 hectares. It contains three distinct vegetation zones: the tree and shrub zone, the shore and reed zone, and a floating-leaf community of aquatic plants.
The area offers shelter and refuge for many water birds.

Lake Einfeld

Highlight • Lake

As a natural recreation area, the Einfelder See with its 178 hectares offers attractive offers and diverse recreational opportunities for every taste and every season.
On the 8 km long circular hiking trail, you can admire the awakening and sprouting nature on foot or by bike. The path was renovated or expanded in 2009. In summer, young and old can frolic on the lake's beaches. Well-equipped facilities invite you to play beach volleyball, sunbathe or have a barbecue. For lovers of water sports, the lake offers ideal conditions for surfing, sailing, rowing or canoeing. The annual dragon boat race is a highlight.

The Bordesholmer See is a worthwhile excursion destination in many ways. The idyllic circular cycle path around the lake is six kilometers long. This beautiful route includes the Bordesholmer monastery, many small bays to linger in with a wonderful view of the lake, a relaxing area of forest and various bathing areas.
There is a small sandy beach, a pier, a bathing island and a sunbathing area at the outdoor swimming pool on Bordesholmer See. Admission is free. The Seeterrassen café restaurant at the bathing establishment is open all year round and has a wonderful view of the lake.

By the way: The name Bordesholm comes from the settlement information given by the monks at that time. The first written information was Bardesholm (1302), Bard = mnd. Bank and Holm = mnd. Island.

Shortly:
- Complete hike / drive possible, 6 km, approx. 90 min.
- Length: about 1.2 km, width: about 800 m
- Circumference: approx. 5 km
- max.depth: 8 m
