Jean Mackenzie Memorial

Highlight • Other

The Jean Mackenzie Memorial is a memorial in Reims, Grand Est, dedicated to Jean Mackenzie, a Scottish soldier who died in the First World War. Jean Mackenzie was a sergeant-major in the 2nd Battalion of the Royal Scots Fusiliers, which took part in the Battle of the Marne in September 1914. He was mortally wounded by shrapnel and died on 14 September 1914 in a field hospital in Reims. His grave was later moved to the cemetery of Saint-Jean in Reims, where the memorial was erected in 1920. The memorial consists of a granite obelisk with a bronze plaque bearing the inscription: “A la mémoire de Jean Mackenzie, Sergent-Major du 2e Bataillon Royal Scots Fusiliers, mort pour la France le 14 septembre 1914” (In memory of Jean Mackenzie, Sergeant-Major of the 2nd Battalion Royal Scots Fusiliers, who died for France on 14 September 1914).

Reims green corridor

Highlight • Trail

The green belt of Reims connects the Aisne à la Marne canal to the Vesle river from Saint-Brice-Courcelles to Sillery.
Some sites along this green belt are protected from any human intrusion, thus allowing for increasing diversification and development of flora and fauna.
This 24-kilometer cycle path of landscaped banks allows you to get out and return to the heart of the city easily, avoiding any road traffic.

The Pont de Vesle bike lift

Highlight • Rest Area

The bicycle lift on the Pont de Vesle in Reims, which provides access to the Coulée Verte, is sometimes out of service. This lift, located in the middle of the bridge, facilitates access to the greenway from the city center. It also has a staircase. There is also a bicycle inflation/repair station on the Coulée Verte, near the Pont de Vesle.
