Canal de la Somme Cycle Path

Highlight • Cycleway

The contrast is striking on this stretch of road which runs along the Somme, here transformed into a canal. In 2018 it was a grassy path. Today this comfortable macadam has replaced the jolts of the track.

This old towpath offers beautiful views and a relaxing calm. There are no more draft horses there as in the past, but only a few cyclists and barges.

July 13, 2025,2025 Bretagne - Tag 33 - Amiens/Péronne ✅
You need several days for Amiens.
There's a lot to see - and you have to stop and enjoy it too!
Last night we went to the cathedral and watched the facade illumination.
There was music playing - a beautiful atmosphere in the square.

Wow, what a fantastic tour! Most of the tour went along the Somme and the magnificent marshlands. We couldn't stop marveling; it was deserted, too. Amiens is mostly lovingly maintained, and the cathedral is an architectural masterpiece, along with its charming little alleys. And all of this in 26-degree sunshine.

I give the tour 5⭐+, and St. Peter gets 10🌟.

For more than 70 kilometers, today's fifth stage takes us almost exclusively along the Somme River with its vast expanses of water and marshland. Given the daily peak temperatures of up to 33 degrees Celsius 🌞, we try to cover as much distance as possible in the morning. A refreshing dip in the Somme helps us defy the scorching heat.
