Pont-d'Alleyras, also called Alleyras, is located in the steep gorges of Haut-Allier to the east of the Devès plateau and to the west of Margeride. In this very small village, you quite unexpectedly find a starred restaurant which serves cuisine of exquisite finesse. Fine gourmets, remember to book!

Eiffel Bridge, Monistrol-d'Allier

You wouldn't expect to find an Eiffel bridge in the heart of Haute-Loire! The Eiffel company obtained the contract in 1887 for the construction of this bridge over the Allier river. It was completed in 1888, just after the construction of the Garabit viaduct and the framework for the Statue of Liberty in New York.

This structure helped to open up the village, while also providing it with an important economic network. The transport of materials, previously impossible in this mountainous and very isolated area at the time, was now feasible. The bridge was restored in the 2000s to maintain the local economy.
