Langener Waldsee Beach

Highlight • Beach

A beautiful swimming lake with everything you need for swimming and a day at the lake (sand, swimming islands, and kiosk). Definitely bring a sunshade – there are only a few shady spots and hardly any trees. If you want, you can also camp by the lake. Even though there is a car park: on nice days, don't go by car, but by bike, there is a guarded bicycle parking area.

The Langener Waldsee is probably the best known and most popular of the bathing lakes in the Rhine-Main area. A large sandy beach attracts sun worshipers and swimmers alike. It can get really crowded here on summer days. Since Frankfurt Airport is so close, the planes fly so low over the lake, depending on the wind direction, during take-off or landing that you almost think you can touch them. In addition, the Frankfurt Ironman starts here year after year.

View of the Sehring Gravel Pit

Highlight • Viewpoint

In the meantime, a sand wall has been heaped up behind the fence. A look into the pit and the water surface is only possible in a few places.

Egelsbach Transmitter Facility

Highlight (Segment) • Structure

The Egelsbach Transmitter Facility is a communication and SIGINT station in the USA in a forest clearing near the Hessian Egelsbach. The site is owned by the Wiesbaden headquarters of the U.S. Land Forces in Europe (7th U.S. Army).

LOCATION

The Egelsbach Transmitter Facility is located in a forest near Egelsbach near Frankfurt am Main. The site has been used by the US armed forces since the end of World War II. On an approx. 30 hectare open space there are operational buildings next to the antenna systems. The site is guarded by the U.S. military police and local guard services. The site is protected by barbed wire and a fence.

FURNISHING

There are 20 mostly log-periodic short-wave antennas (horizontally polarized) from TCI International on the site. In addition, there are now four radomes. There are microwave radio relay systems on a mast structure. Two microwave bowls point towards the former Rhein-Main Air Base.

While other US military facilities were shut down or reduced in the 2000s, expansion work was taking place on the Egelsbach Transmitter Facility. Another radome with an estimated five meters in diameter was created in 2011.

Generators for energy supply are available in underground systems. In addition, the facility had several bunkers on the neighboring area, which was also a restricted area, which have since been demolished. What was stored there is still unknown.
