Aarøsund Ferry Terminal

Highlight • Rest Area

Perhaps Denmark's fastest ferry ride, 8 minutes from the mainland and you're in Aarø harbor.
Would you like to take a trip to the pearl of the Little Belt, Aarø? Then the Aarø ferry will take you over to the island. The ferry follows a timetable and runs daily from 6 a.m. to 11 p.m., outside of this time there is an emergency standby for acute cases, such as B. Illness.

The ferry has space for 12 cars and 98 passengers. Reservations are not possible and as a rule you will be transferred in the order in which you arrive at the ferry.

There may be a shift in departure times in connection with additional trips that can be carried out if more cars or passengers are available for a departure than can be taken.
You can buy tickets either at the ticket machine in the entrance hall of the waiting room (credit card) or directly at the dock (cash) when you get on board in Aarøsund. The tickets are valid for the return journey.

Sunflower Meadow

Highlight • Natural

Today (Sun. 06/07/2026) unfortunately only wilted sunflowers were visible... No idea if they will come again this year or if it's already over 😥. Maybe they were just buds 🫤

Haderslev Cathedral

Highlight • Religious Site

St. Mary's Church in Haderslev (Danish: Vor Frue Kirke, German: Frauenkirche), also known as Haderslev Cathedral (Danish: Haderslev Domkirke), is considered the most beautiful Gothic church in Denmark. The 22-meter-high chancel is supported by four flying buttresses, the only surviving Gothic buttress system in the country. In 1922, the church became the cathedral of the newly established Diocese of Haderslev.

The Gothic church was built in the 13th century, replacing a smaller granite structure as the trading center of Haderslev developed into one of the most important cities in the region. The red brick building consists of a triple nave, chancel, transept, entrance hall (Baroque), sacristy, and several chapels. With its elevated central nave, the church appears as a hybrid form between a hall church and a basilica.

In the 15th century, the Romanesque chancel was also extended to three naves, reaching the same height as the nave. The Gothic choir windows are 15.9 meters high.

Restoration became necessary after the city was sacked in 1627 during the Thirty Years' War. The west tower, which had collapsed a few years earlier, was not rebuilt; instead, the church received a Baroque entrance hall.

During a restoration in the mid-19th century, the church received a uniform brick floor. In the process, numerous historically significant gravestones were destroyed. During the restoration beginning in 1941, the church received its light-colored paint scheme, and several frescoes (including coats of arms of Schleswig and Holstein noble families) were uncovered and reconstructed. Saint Peter is depicted in the south aisle, and Saint Barbara in the north aisle.
