An old church of medieval origin on the same site was completely demolished before 1715. In 1715 the hall church, which characterizes the town center today, was built. Baron Otto Heinrich von Friesen auf Rötha managed - and also financed a large part - the new building.

The rectangular nave with a square tower attached to the west side still had a stretcher room attached to the south side until about 1990. But it had to be demolished due to dilapidation.

The church is in the shape of a baroque village church - plain, rectangular, with a nave lit by four windows and a square tower to the west, merging into an octagonal spire to be covered by a scalloped dome with lantern and spire.

Inside the church there is a three-sided gallery with an organ. The painted altar with a pulpit is centered to the east. The interior was first painted in 1763. In 1887, the congregation redesigned the interior of the church and the facade in the way that it presents itself in its current appearance, which is in great need of renovation.
