Izaak Walton Gauging Station and Weir

Highlight • Bridge

This weir was constructed by the Trent River Authority in 1969. Its purpose is to measure continually the flow of water in the River Dove.

This is the easier side of the river Dove, with a surfaced trail leading from the car park to the famous stepping stones. You can make this a loop by crossing at the stepping stones and following the rougher trail back on the other side of the river, or climb Thorpe Cloud and drop back down to the bridge and car park.

Dovedale's stepping stones

Highlight • River

The Stepping Stones make for a quirky crossing of the River Dove. In the middle of the stones, be sure to look around and admire the stunning scenery. The stones were placed in the middle of the 19th century and were an instant hit with visitors. There are lots of fossils in the stones, too.
