Whaley Bridge Canal Basin

The town of Whaley Bridge is often referred to as 'the gateway to the Goyt Valley’. It is indeed an excellent base for adventures in this beautiful region of the Peak District National Park.

Historically, Whaley Bridge was station of great importance on the Peak Forest Canal, handling over 600 tons of limestone during its prime. Nearby Toddbrook Reservoir, originally built as a feeder for the canal, is a lovely place for a pleasant afternoon amble.

Sett Valley Trail

Highlight (Segment) • Trail

The Sett Valley Trail, which also makes up part of the Pennine Bridleway, follows a former railway line over 2.5 miles (4km). It's a pleasant, gradual climb from New Mills to the picturesque village of Hayfield.

This is a great off-road route for families and beginners, or as a link to access some of the longer routes through the Peak District.
