"The forests should whisper,
people should be amazed
the birds should sing,
from the mountains shall ring,
which Creator is God, our Lord.
Praise and thanks must be given to him,
because he created these earths
and this place is full of beauty."

Augenborn (Varus Spring)

According to legend, a Roman legionnaire was injured in the eye by a spear during a combat mission. He came to the Augenborn and washed his injured eye with the cooling spring water. After several uses, the eye was completely healed. The news of the healing spring spread quickly because the Romans particularly appreciated the value of healing springs. In 1843 the well-known St. Wendel pharmacist Dr. Emil Riegel carried out an analysis of the spring water and gave it the name “Varusquelle”. For centuries the spring has kept its reputation among the population as an ophthalmic source of healing. The vernacular therefore calls them "Augenborn" (in Bliesen "Auborre" ‘).
