Stainforth Stepping Stones and Packhorse Bridge

Highlight • Waterfall

The picturesque village of Stainforth oozes quintessential Yorkshire Dales charm. Nestled within beautiful Ribblesdale, it is a great base for exploring the iconic countryside around Ingleborough, Pen-y-ghent and Fountains Fell.

The village and its immediate surroundings are a delight to explore. There's a charming packhorse bridge; tumbling waterfalls, Stainforth Force and Catrigg Force; a stepping stone beck crossing; and a great pub, the Craven Heifer, which also offers accommodation.

Catrigg Force Waterfall

Highlight • Waterfall

Nestled in a secluded woodland gorge, Catrigg Force is a hidden gem in the Yorkshire Dales. The composer Edward Elgar is rumoured to have been a huge fan of this waterfall and would hike here every time he visited friends in nearby Settle.

Attermire Scar

Highlight • Trail

The skyline above Settle makes for a tremendous day out for hikers. There is no central peak to go for, just a jagged collection of rocky high points that make for a really good walk, but you will find a trig point on Warrendale Knotts. You will find a lot of caves in the area too due to the terrain being dominated by limestone, and nearby Victoria Cave is the largest of these caves. All in all, Attermire Scar is an impressive geological feature.

View of Warrendale Knotts

Highlight • Natural Monument

Warrendale Knotts is a group of rocky limestone knolls that sit overlooking Settle and Langcliffe, just to the west of Attermire Scar. Although it is not very high at 1,476 feet (450 m), it is interesting, and it makes for a good ramble or even a scramble, if you are that way inclined.
