The baroque courtly way of life called for entertainment appropriate to one's status outside of the official duties of representation. The palace park not only offered the ideal opportunity for this, but its design also contributed to the absolutist demonstration of power and self-portrayal of Frederick II and his successors. Another attraction of the tea house were the exotic plants, which could now be permanently housed thanks to the newly built orangery to replace the old greenhouses.
