Fegatella Spring

Highlight • Natural Monument

The Fonte Fegatella is one of the symbols most loved by the castellans. As the name itself suggests, the source, thanks to its salt-chromium-ionic water (high in bromine and iodine) has healing powers linked to liver health. These powers were discovered way back in 1337, when it is said of a herd of sheep seriously ill with liver disease who, by drinking the water of the Fegatella, returned to health. These properties of the Fegatella water were also studied and listed thanks to tests carried out by university professors present in the city during the seven months of the transfer of the Bolognese university headquarters to Castel San Pietro following the papal interdict on Bologna.
...
The main temple monument dates back to the early 1950s, erected by the then independent healthcare company. Subject to interventions and renovations several times, in recent times the source has acquired a second tap towards the Lungo Sillaro park, on the other side of the road.

Sassoleone

Highlight • Settlement

Mountain village, excellent road to get to Tuscany.
There is a grocery store and 2 fountains, one immediately on the road that could be CLOSED in winter, in which case I suggest you turn right towards the "SPORT FIELD", instead it is open all year round ...

Giugnola Village

Highlight • Settlement

Ancient village of medieval origins that marks the border between Emilia Romagna and Tuscany.
It is ambiguous how the border is placed not at the beginning or at the end of the municipality as one might think, but rather it is placed right in the center of the town, so that certain houses are even marked on the land register as partly in Emilia Romagna, and in Part in Tuscany.
What is certain is that its narrow alleys will enchant you ...

Having crossed the Sillaro stream near the Fegatella source in Castel S.Pietro T., a path begins on a small pedestrian bridge which, running alongside the stream, leads to S. Martino in Pedriolo entirely on a gravel road, sometimes stony and paths.
In my opinion it is a valid alternative to v. Viara, asphalted and busy
