Cypress Avenue

Highlight (Segment) • Cycleway

From the main road, this tree-lined avenue lined with cypress trees leads up to Bolgheri, a lovely little place. Here at the street sale a gelato (ice cream) tasting. :-D

Marina di Bibbona Beach

Highlight • Beach

On the coast between Cecina, Bibbona and the hamlets of Marina di Bibbona and La California, this long and narrow pine forest is perfect for cycling in the cool and among the trees. Those who cycle here more often assure that it is difficult to hear the rain or get wet when it rains, so thick are the treetops.

The large area that runs along the sea between Marina di Cecina and Marina di Bibbona hosts a Biogenetic Nature Reserve, characterized by resinous and aromatic plants, Mediterranean scrub and, above all, tall pines (Pinus Pinea and Pinus Maritima). The long, suggestive main "avenue" (on which there are cross paths leading to the sea) can be traveled freely, both on foot and by mountain bike (the ground, covered with pine needles and sand, is not suitable for all types of bicycles). There are drinking fountains (at the beginning and at the end) and picnic tables.

Theatre of Silence

Highlight • Monument

The building, inaugurated on 27 July 2006, was erected by will of the popular singer Andrea Bocelli originally from this country.

According to the original idea, the structure was created to be assembled and host only one show a year (hence the name "Teatro del Silenzio"). The construction consists of a circular "stage" with a radius of a few meters in the center of which stands a different scenography every year: the most famous, which has become the symbol of the Theater itself, is an imposing sculpture depicting a human face created by the Polish sculptor Igor Mitoraj for the scenography of a Manon Lescaut and subsequently donated by the sculptor to the foundation of the theatre.

Some blocks of Tuscan travertine were placed as a backdrop to the stage.

On days when the theater is not in operation, the stalls are completely dismantled and the stage is transformed into an artificial lake. From here comes the definition of Theater of Silence, more precisely that place in the territory of the Municipality of Lajatico characterized by hills which, with (necessary) earthmoving interventions, was created, or rather simulated, as a natural Theater thus conceived.
