Heimathaus Weseke

Highlight • Historical Site

Here at Heimathaus Weseke old houses are gradually being rebuilt, there is a water treading basin and a number of old equipment, for example an old washing machine or a mangle like in grandma’s time. One should not overlook the display case with small glasses with sand from all continents. Right next to it you will find the apothecary garden with many different medicinal plants, all with small or large boards. You can find the descriptions on it.

The old railway line from Borken to Winterswijk used to be located here.
Excerpt from the website of the Burlo local association:

1880 - The Winterswijk - Gelsenkirchen-Bismarck railway line opens. The route led over the Borkenwirther area from north (Dutch border) to south (Gemenwirthe). The route was closed to cross-border passenger traffic with the outbreak of the Second World War.

1898 - Burlo gets its own train station, which had national importance until 1914. The trains and wagons stopped here on their journey between Gelsenkirchen and Amsterdam before the connection was completely shut down in 1996

August 21, 2025,Radeln für die Seele Tour Nr.9 " Von Aa nach See"
A very beautiful circular tour from Borken train station via Gemen, Weseke, to Burlo, and into the Netherlands. There are many things to discover. For example, Gemen Castle, a post mill, a farm museum, a marsh, the Pröpstingsee lake, and a cheese dairy. (The cheese platter is highly recommended.) A truly great tour from the book "Cycling for the Soul."
