El Escalerón and La Raya Trail

Highlight • Trail

Everyone talks about Laguna, La Raya, Los Miradores, Escalerón and Las Catedrales, but no one talks about Uña, which is a beautiful and cozy town in Cuenca. They treated us very well.

The Cathedrals of Uña

Highlight • Natural Monument

After passing the Arroyo de la Madera, after turning several curves along the GR 66 track, at the beginning of a curve to the left you have a path that goes off to the right without any signposting, that is the beginning of the ascent.

Laguna de Uña

Highlight • Lake

On the shore of the lagoon there is a space with benches and a fountain to prepare the equipment. The trail coincides with the PR-CU 37 short-distance trail. The usual direction of the trail is counterclockwise, first it goes up El Escalerón and down La Raya, as indicated on the information panel. In our case, we consider it more comfortable to do the tour in a clockwise direction and leave the bird observatories and tourist visits for last. The trail leaves the town along a dirt track parallel to the canal that surrounds the lagoon to the south. On the trees there are white and yellow marks from the PR-CU 37 and red and white from the GR-88 trail, but they are poorly defined. About 300 meters away, a viewpoint appears on the left of the road over the Cuevas del Batán and the tuff block that closes the natural outlet of the Rincón stream, where the Uña lagoon has formed.

Descent to La Raya

Highlight • Gorge

La Raya is a horizontal line of erosion on the rocks of the cliff. You can access it by a path from below and once there you can walk quietly from one side to the other. But there is also a descent from the top of the rock cliff. This descent, and ascent, is narrow and must be done with a little caution.

View of the Laguna de Uña

Highlight • Viewpoint

The town of Uña offers us a wonderful place in the heart of the Serranía de Cuenca. Very close to the town center is Laguna de Uña, an ideal place to visit with the family and which you can completely surround by traveling along an easy and picturesque path.
