Lava Arch

Since El Golfo is on the edge of the national park, you also have a great view of the volcanic craters. A trip to El Golfo is therefore very worthwhile.

May 19, 2025,Lanzarote - El Golfo, El Mojón, Montaña Quemada - Wandern
Our plan for today, a walk south from El Golfo to Lago Verde, unfortunately had to be cancelled, as the trail via the Mirador del Charco de los Clicos is officially closed (and likely will remain so permanently).

Instead, we opted for a fairly well-known and short hiking route heading north from El Golfo along the coast, which then leads …

Multifaceted hike on the lake side of the national park - sturdy shoes required - mostly windy but adventurous views of everything that makes Lanzarote special

Showing Translation

First of all, without any meter: the trail up Montana Quemada with its beautiful view can be easily planned using Komoot, but all the paths up there are closed!

When others are baking in the sun,
we think it's advisable
to hike along the seashore.

We thought it was great to walk on volcanic rock today!

Showing Translation

The path along the coast offers impressive views of the cliffs and lava fields, but is narrow and requires concentrated steps over bizarre stone steps and gravel. The path away from the coast, on the other hand, is easy to walk.

Showing Translation

The hike begins in El Golfo, you take the path right next to the sea, the route is rather difficult to walk, later you reach a road that leads through the national park, the rest is easy to do, there are various in the town of El Golfo Restaurants for catering.

Route circulates, simple, from the car park at the end of El Golfo. The first part is the only one with some difficulty due to the surface, since you walk on lava, but the views of the sea make up for it. The rest of the route is on a track with a good surface, surrounded by malpaises and tabaibales.

Showing Translation

The hiking trail on the southwestern corner of the Timanfaya National Park is unique: the finest volcanic landscape combined with the coast!
But you also have to put up with trudging a few kilometers over sharp-edged volcanic rocks - this puts a strain on shoes and calves, but (and this should not be underestimated) keeps the usual crowds of tourists …

Showing Translation

Circular hike from El Golfo along the coast to the north (approx. 3 km) and then back through a corner of the Timanfaya National Park past one of the many volcanic craters.
The first part of the trail was quite demanding in terms of subsoil, lots of loose and sharp-edged volcanic rock debris. Definitely sturdy shoes recommended!
Partly very windy …
