A superb cycle path along a former railway line, an absolute experience. From Tarvisio onward, it gets even better. More info: alpe-adria-radweg.com/mobile/de

September 16, 2023,Alpe-Adria-Tour von Paternion nach Tarvisio (6.Etappe)
After a restful night and a good breakfast, we started early for us at 10am.
We would like to recommend the “Kärntner Stub’n” in Paternion.
It rolled quite well in sunny weather.
In Villach there was time for cappuccino and croissants in the pedestrian zone. We met cyclists there who we spoke to yesterday.
For a long time we had …

The tour began as a continuation of yesterday's journey along the Drau River to Villach. The route then changed into the Gailtal Valley and continued along a road to Arnoldstein. From there, the route continued toward Italy, continuing along a road to the border crossing. There, there was an immediate short climb onto an old railway line. This continued to …

Day 4 on the AAR... from Spittal along the Drau Cycle Path, which is very close to the river, to Villach. The Drau couldn't muddy the waters today, but you could see to the right and left of the cycle path that a lot of work had been done after the flood so that we could cycle wonderfully again. The …

Today we headed towards Italy in the most beautiful sunshine, with a stopover in Villach.

4th stage Alpe Adria, a really nice ride along the Drau to Villach, later the ascent begins, and the border crossing to Italy 🇮🇹 is not far away, for lovers of lost places we recommend the old abandoned train station of Tarvisio ( Tarvisio) with its underground passages (see photos at the end) 👻

FOURTH day Alpe-Adria-Tour ! Start in Spittal an der Drau in good weather. Then continue on the Drau cycle path to Villach. First storm clouds to see already very strong wind. After Villach turn into the Gailtalradweg. Rain gets heavier, continue with another couple, keep looking for shelter, and finally arrive at Tarvisio completely soaked. It was still fun!🚴‍♂️🚴‍♀️⛰️
