Pilgrimage Church of Mariahilf in Kronburg

Highlight • Religious Site

Place of pilgrimage - legend

After the miraculous healing of his son, who had stabbed himself in the eye with the tip of a knife, Hans Lechleitner and Johann Raimund Fieger von Kronburg had a portrait of the Virgin Mary painted (after Lukas Cranach) and a chapel built.

The pilgrimage church of the Virgin Mary was built as a chapel in 1673 and expanded between 1714 and 1717 after receiving numerous donations from pilgrims. The result was a baroque gem. There are a number of votive offerings near the entrance. Each of the pieces tells a story: of wishes and prayers that have already come true.

The pilgrimage church belongs to the diocese of Innsbruck as a chaplaincy of the parish of Zams.

The Kronburg Monastery is a very special place: you can see the pilgrimage church from afar. You can also eat here, there is a Kneipp garden and also an art exhibition in an old barn.

View of Kronburg Castle near Zams

Highlight • Viewpoint

Kronburg Castle, Zams
The ruins of the Kronburg can be seen from afar on a steep rock between Zams and Schönwies. The castle was built in 1380 by Johann von Starkenberg and generously rebuilt by the Fieger family in 1504. The castle has not been inhabited since 1766 and has fallen into disrepair. In 1985, the facility was restored on the initiative of the “Save the Kronburg” association.
