Hinter Seebodenalp mountain lake

Highlight • Lake

There was once a large lake on Seebodenalp. The eruption of the marginal moraine in 1886 and the construction of this dam drained the lake, creating a moorland landscape that was converted into a nature reserve at the turn of the millennium.

Seebodenalp was to live up to its name again. In 2010, in Hinter Seeboden, where, as the name suggests, there was a lake until the 19th century, the Berg und Seeboden Küssnacht Corporation excavated a mountain lake up to 2.5 meters deep on an area of approximately 3,000 square meters and left it to nature. A new habitat for animals and plants was created. Those seeking relaxation can enjoy the tranquility of the jetty, where they can sit on the bench and watch birds.

Just relax and enjoy - round trip on Seebodenalp or a bit more challenging on the Rigi, this area has much to offer. We decided to hike from Immensee over the forest on foot to Seebodenalp, and up there over the Hölderen Hut to enjoy the panorama trail down to Alp Ruodisegg. An option if you have made over 1000 meters the day before and feel like a simpler tour with plenty of refreshments. If you feel like home-baked cakes and freshly made food, you should plan your tour with Destination Hölderen Hut.

The last great ice age reached its peak around 1,321,000 years ago. Mount Rigi was surrounded by the Reuss Glacier, which extended far into the Swiss Plateau and left clear traces. At that time, a thick layer of ice lay in the valleys surrounding Mount Rigi. Large quantities of debris and boulders (erratics from the Gotthard Massif) were carried from the upper Uri Reuss Valley into our region. Information panels are located at various locations. They provide information about the history of the Seebodenalp glacial landscape and about changes that have occurred over the centuries due to human or climatic influences. Other topics include current forms of management on Seebodenalp, nature conservation and biodiversity, and landscape design.

Taking the train to the Seebodenalp really makes sense .., On certain days, the snake needs to go up because of the oncoming more than 1:15 hours ... even painfully experienced ...

Fire Pit With View of Mount Rigi

Highlight • Rest Area

On Seebodenalp, there are several fire pits with permanent grills, benches, and a wood shelter. Wood is often provided free of charge; if you use it carefully, there will be enough for the next one.
