London Bridge Stone Alcoves in Victoria Park

On the east side of Victoria Park there are two stone ten-foot-high (3 m) alcoves, which are the remnants of old London Bridge. The bridge was built between 1176 and 1209, and it stood for an amazing 600 years. When the bridge was demolished in 1931, a handful of alcoves were preserved, and two were donated to Victoria Park in 1960. These are simply an amazing remnant of history.

The Royal Inn on the Park is the perfect place for a pitstop on a ride around Vicky Park. Its a grand building that's often very busy during the summer months, particularly the beer garden that overlooks the park. There's a great selection of drinks and the food is delicious.

Victoria Park Lake, Sculptures, and Pagoda

Highlight • Viewpoint

Victoria Park in Hackney is a large and attractive park with lakes, sculptures, a Chinese pagoda and numerous play areas. There's tasty food and drink at the Pavilion Cafe, including cakes and home-baked bread.

It's located at a junction of the Regent Canal and the Hertford Union Canal, which makes it ideal for walking or riding trips between Regents Park, Limehouse Basin and the Olympic Park.

Victoria Park Lake Fountain

Easily reachable from the canal path, with a 4.5km loop or a number of ways to cut across the park. Flat or near enough, so good for some tempo/interval work if you're about that; if not, a wide main path makes it pretty stress-free. A couple of roads cross the park but they are rarely busy, and all have pedestrian crossings so shouldn't cause too much disruption.
