Temple of Saint Sebastian

Highlight • Religious Site

San Sebastiano is an early Renaissance church in Mantua, northern Italy. Designed by Leon Battista Alberti, it was partially completed in 1460 and finished in the mid-1470s. Apart from the plan, considered one of the earliest and most important examples of centrally planned Renaissance churches, little of Alberti's work survives. The plan is in the form of a Greek cross, with three identical arms centering the apse, beneath a central cross-vaulted space without internal partitions. The church sits atop a low-lying crypt, which was intended to serve as a mausoleum for the Gonzaga family.

Sordello Square, Mantua

Highlight • Historical Site

The Ducal Palace of Mantua, also known as the Gonzaga palace, is one of the main historic buildings in the city.
Since 1308 it has been the official residence of the lords of Mantua, the Bonacolsi, and therefore the main residence of the Gonzagas, lords, marquises and finally dukes of the Virgilian city.
It housed the dominant Gonzaga of the time, his wife, his legitimate eldest son and other legitimate children up to the age of majority as well as important guests.
It assumed the name of Palazzo Reale during the Austrian domination starting from the reign of Maria Theresa of Austria .

Lakes of Mantua

Highlight • Lake

Mantua embraces its lakes: lower, upper and middle. They are formed by the flow of the Mincio river, which slows down here. Between the lotuses blooming in Lake Superior and the elegant swans sailing the waters, these bodies of water represent a perfect harmony between human ingenuity and natural beauty.
