Cycling from Amsterdam to Leiden is doable, but can be very difficult if there is a strong headwind.

The surroundings are beautiful! There are many cafes along the water where you can take a break, especially in the Haarlemmermeer. These may only be open on weekends. There are also options near Rijpwetering Marina.
