View of Lake Caldaro

Highlight • Viewpoint

The lake is 1.8 km long, 0.9 km wide and 5.6 m deep at its deepest point. The area is 1.47 km². It is at an altitude of 215 m s.l.m. in a valley formed by an old river bed of the Adige, in the municipality of Caldaro about 14 km south of the city of Bozen. On the west side, gentle slopes of the Kalterer district of St. Josef am See offer space before the terrain rises steeply to the Mendelkamm. On the east side is the small village of Klughammer, which belongs to the municipality of Pfatten and is directly towered over by the Mitterberg.

Lake Caldaro is one of the largest lakes in South Tyrol (which, however, has fewer lakes) and is – together with Lake Klopeiner See – the warmest bathing lake in the Alps. The water temperature in summer is up to 28 °C, the bathing season is from May to September.

Lake Caldaro is a highlight from everywhere. If you come from Eppan-Kaltern, you will experience it on a beautiful, well-paved bike path between the wineries, which descend with us down the slope to the shore of the lake.

Lavazè Pass

Highlight • Mountain Pass

The Lavazè pass, located at an altitude of 1,808 metres, connects the Val di Fiemme, Trentino, with the Val d'Ega, Alto Adige. The Lavazè pass area is known for Nordic skiing: it is possible to find around 80 kilometers of tracks dedicated to cross-country skiing.

Descent from Lavazè Pass

Highlight (Segment) • Mountain Pass

Regardless of the direction - the road between Obereggen and Lavazejoch has a super pleasant slope and top surface to accelerate.

From the Lavazejoch I recommend a detour to the Jochgrimm. With the gravel bike you can continue from there on the toboggan run (gravel road) to Radein, where you have a connection towards Truden, Etschtal or Cavalese in the Fiemme Valley.

Very nice cycle path with great asphalt away from the busy wine route, there is even an illuminated tunnel.
