Fisherman's Walk Cliff Lift

Highlight • Rest Area

Fishermans Walk Lift is designed to serve the Southbourne and Boscombe promenades.
Opened in 1935 by the borough engineer, Mr F P Delamore, Fisherman's Walk Cliff Railway is by far the youngest of the town's three lines. Fisherman's Walk Cliff Railway is very similar to its earlier counterparts. The line carried two 12-seater passenger cars and was originally wound by a 21 h.p. 500V DC motor.
Just as in the case of the East Cliff and West Cliff railways, the cliff railway at Fisherman's Walk has entrance buildings at both ends of the line.
Open between April and October.

Hengistbury Head Beach Huts

Highlight • Settlement

The Hengistbury Head beach huts occupy a rather enviable position on the peninsula's stunning, sandy beach. Looking out to the Isle of Wight, you could just imagine spending a whole summer here with your feet up.

For those of us not in possession of a beach hut, they are still a vision of English seaside postcards. Brightly coloured and mostly well cared for, they make a very photogenic scene at any time of year.

Beastly conditions today. Wild winds, crashing waves and lashing rain. So not a particularly quick run, especially the section from the visitors centre up the steep ramps to the top of the head and the trig point. Here you are exposed to natures full force and I must admit that today I walked a few steps past the few ponds behind the fence on the right just after the first ramp up and before the stone obelisk at the bottom of the second ramp. Only about ten paces just to ease the effort in the full force of the wind but managed to shuffle/jog up all the ramps to the trig point. Thankfully this run is almost all on tarmac which is better on an extremely wet day, although there are a lot if puddles but less greasy and muddy than the forest.
Still a lot of dog walkers about and always other runners.
Nice running across the top of the Head with wild, foaming, crashing grey seas below.
Hazy and stormy but very exhilarating at the same time. Not fast in these conditions at all, but good
