Blue Hill Observatory and View of Boston Skyline

Highlight • Viewpoint

Take a hike to the summit of Great Blue Hill and the observation tower close by that offers a stunning 270° view of Boston, its harbour and to the South Shore. The 35-foot stone structure was built by the Civilian Conservation Corps between 1933 and 1944.

Wolcott Path

Highlight (Segment) • Trail

This path is well-maintained and easy to navigate, surrounded by the most beautiful pine and hemlock trees. If you enjoy running on flat and wide-open spaces instead of challenging rocky terrain, this trail is perfect for you.

Walcott Path (Gravel Road)

Highlight (Segment) • Trail

Great gravel road through the forest. There is elevation change when riding this road: however, it is well graded and a good surface. It is worth the effort once you get a view from the summit of Great Blue Hill.

Hancock Hill

Highlight • Summit

Hancock Hill may not be the tallest or most popular summit in the reservation, but its tree-covered peak offers some of the most stunning views of Downtown Boston. Unlike other well-known hills, it is less crowded and provides a fantastic spot to take a breather and hike up one of the shorter side trails to enjoy the beautiful scenery. While it's not directly on the Skyline Trail, it's still worth the visit.

Wolcott Path

Highlight (Segment) • Trail

This is a nice and easy trail on a wide open path through beautiful stands of pine and hemlocks. It's a good trail for those who prefer to walk on well-maintained forest roads rather than rocky and intricate footpaths.
