Hard road ride. Very good fitness required. Mostly well-paved surfaces and easy to ride. The starting point of the route is accessible with public transport.

View of Bormes-les-Mimosas

Highlight • Viewpoint

Bormes-les-Mimosas is located a few kilometers east of Hyéres. If you drive from Hyéres in the direction of Saint-Tropez, you will inevitably come to the branch to Bormes. A road winds up to the hillside village. Above the village sits an old fortress ruin. The climb is worth it but rather because of the view. The village is almost like a large botanical garden, countless plants bloom in numerous colors. However, the mimosas that gave the village its name do not bloom in summer, so you have to arrive in the very early spring. Highly recommended is a visit in mid-June, because then there are many plants in full bloom.

Especially the bougainvilleas are always an eye-catcher! The village makes a very neat impression, among which in some places the originality suffers a bit. In the village there is a circular route with various sights. Unfortunately, you sometimes feel like you are on a leash, because numerous signposts always want to lead the renegade visitor back to the Circuit touristique. The street Ruompi Cuou ("Broken Neck"), which is recommended in the guidebook, deserves the name barely, since it is now equipped with steps and no drainage channel in the middle. We look forward to our next visit to this beautiful flowered village!

Climb to Col de Babaou

Highlight (Segment) • Mountain Pass

Good road surface, little traffic, relatively easy to drive (<7% gradient). Take drinks with you, as it's very hot in summer and the next town doesn't come until after you leave (Collobrieres, but it's very worth it!!)

Babaou Pass

Highlight • Mountain Pass

One of my favorite cols whatever the side climbed. On the north side, coming from Collobrières, the pass is reasonably steep (between 4 and 5%) but offers practically no respite for 5 or 6 km. On the south side, the decorations are sumptuous. The pass is 8 km long but offers many almost flat sections. There is a 2.5 km steeper passage, around 6%. To do absolutely!

Hotel la Riviere: delicious, freshly made baguette (sandwich) for little money. And ice cubes (Glacon) for the bottle. Very nice people there. Yes, also many cyclists 🚵🏻♂️🚵🏻♀️👍🏻😎

The climb is regular, the surface from Collobrières has just been redone (watch out for the gravel) and the descent is a real billiard table with magnificent views
