At the 48th kilometer near Żory, 22-year-old Belgian Bjorg Lambrecht falls off the route and hits a concrete culvert. The race doctor arrives quickly and immediately realizes that the situation is very bad - internal injuries led to hemorrhaging and cardiac arrest. A dramatic fight for the cyclist's life begins. The doctor decides to open the cage and perform direct heart massage. Vital functions are restored, but the situation is still very difficult.
Due to Lambrecht's condition, transport by helicopter to the hospital is not possible, so an ambulance remains. The Belgian is placed on the operating table. Doctors do what they can, but it is too late to save him.
