Casa del Monte de Ucieda

Highlight • Rest Area

There are several recreational areas with tables and barbecues, almost all with grills. There is also a huge children's playground and a bar that is open in summer. It has bathrooms, independent of the opening hours of the bar. Along the route of the Bayones River you will find the Ucieda pools where you can bathe.

Fallen Oak of Brujilices

Highlight • Natural Monument

The Oak "Tumbao" is one of the trees cataloged within "singular trees of Cantabria" and it is a "Cajiga" (Quercus Robur) about 25 meters high and approximately 250 years old, its curiosity is that one day full of strong wind blew snow on its branches and the tree fell because it could not withstand so much weight, but instead of being its end and by keeping some of its roots rooted in the ground, it was able to survive and new branches sprouted. Today 4 of its branches are 4 rootless trees formed from the original trunk and filling Brujilices with beauty, within the Vados River Forest.

Jou de la Collá Cabin

Highlight • Mountain Hut

Following the Vados River path, we can briefly deviate to go down La Senda de las Rozas, and in a braña we find this small refuge, made of stones and wood and half covered with vegetation so as not to stand out too much from the surroundings. The Jou de la Collá cabin looks like a small goblin house, but it is nothing more than an old hut temporarily occupied by shepherds looking after the local herds.

Ruins of the Abandoned Village of Rozas

Highlight • Historical Site

Poblado de Rozas, abandoned a long time ago, you can see the remains of houses, walls, farms, orchards, paths, already almost entirely engulfed by the forest and now of strange and silent beauty.

'The name 'Rozas' derives from the usual practice in the Cantabrian mountains of clearing wooded areas to dedicate to growing cereals or grazing livestock, in times of greatest need.'

September 4, 2022,Senda de Las Rozas - Casa del Monte en Ucieda
Note: Taking advantage of the fact that today in the Campa de Ucieda (Casa del Monte) the festival of "Cocido Day" was celebrated, we decided to spend this day with the family taking a small route through the beautiful Mount.
The route begins in the very Casa del Monte of the well-known "Senda de los Vados" or "Senda de los …
