Church of St John the Baptist

Highlight • Religious Site

Located in the Plaza de San Juan, this church is one of the most populous parishes in the city. It was formerly called San Juan de los Ovejeros, because the transhumant cattle ranchers who visited the city settled in the area when the cattle fairs were held.
The church is from the 13th century but with profound reforms in the 14th, 15th and 17th centuries. In the sixties of the 20th century, the church was remodeled to restore its original style, eliminating the altarpiece and subsequent decorations.

Co-Cathedral of Santa María, Cáceres

Highlight • Religious Site

The Holy Church Co-Cathedral of Santa María is the most important Christian temple in Cáceres and, since 1957, it has the rank of Co-Cathedral.
The origin of this church dates back to the 13th century as a Romanesque temple, but its destruction led to the creation of a new late-Gothic church between the 15th and 16th centuries. Late-Romanesque corbels - heads of the beam that protrude outside - remain from this Romanesque period on the western and southern Gothic doors.

Unfortunately I forgot to end the tour. The bus ride back should not be one of them. 🙄
