The road to the South of Garth Mountain is named the "Route Des Alpes" on Google maps. I'm thinking it isn't genuine, but I like it!

The views from the footpath climbing up off the road are fantastic on a clear day.

Craig yr Allt

Highlight • Trail

Craig yr Allt is a hill in South Wales with an unmarked summit overlooking Caerphilly to the east and the villages of Nantgarw and Taff's Well to the west. The Taff Ely Ridgeway Walk passes over the hill. It is a UK listed Marilyn.

Fforest Fawr Woodland Trail

Highlight • Trail

Fforest Fawr offers numerous walking trails through the woods. There are three walking trails from the Fforest Fawr car park including a sculpture trail for families, and another walking trail from the Castell Coch car park.

Along the tracks, you may notice some mounds and hollows which are iron-mining workings and their adjacent spoil tips, now overgrown with vegetation.

Fforest Fawr is a mixed woodland and it has patches of bluebells, wood anemones and wild garlic in the spring.

The woodland is frequently used as a film location – scenes from Merlin and Sherlock have been shot here.

Fforest Fawr Sculpture Trail

Highlight • Structure

Lots of sculptures to be seen here on the Fforest Fawr Circular walk.

There are three heritage trails to choose from, a Sculpture Trail with wood carvings along the route, old mining caves and Castle Coch for touring. Make sure you stop by Forest Stoves and Fires Café just around the corner from the Castle Coch entrance for some homemade food, a cuppa and a warm seat by the fire. There are even some cheeky little peacocks in the garden to keep you entertained.

A pretty weir of the River Taff, the Radyr Weir runs today as a hydro power scheme and a focal point of Radyr town. Many wild salmon and sea trout can be found at the Weir, as well as grey herons and cormorants.
