A true outdoor lovers' mecca, Betws-y-Coed is a great gateway to Snowdonia National Park. Anyone who has driven into Snowdonia on the A5 will have noted its picturesque setting, its alpine character and its numerous gear shops, cafes, hotels and B&Bs.

Betws-y-Coed is surrounded by the gorgeous Gwydyr Forest, which boasts a variety of trails. Moel Siabod is prominent from many points in the village and it is only a short drive to starting points for Snowdon and the Glyderau.

Gwydir Forest

Gwydir Forest is a large area of managed woodland around Betws y Coed and southwest of Llanwrst in Snowdonia National Park. It's managed by Natural Resources Wales for forestry operations and leisure. The forest is criss-crossed with great running trails that are brilliant anyway but also a very good choice if the weather makes the mountains less inviting. Lots of mountain bike trails as well.

Llyn Parc

This stunning lake is surprisingly close to the bustling village of Betws-y-Coed, yet has a remarkably serene feel to it.

The long, narrow lake is surrounded by the thick Gwydyr Forest, with a walking path down the eastern shore.

A gravel fire road is perfect for cycling nearby, touching the shore at the southern end where you'll find the dam.
