The idea behind the design was to faciliate both a town hall in the main building and a bustling marketplace below it. Built during the 17th century, it is now a Grade I-listed building at the heart of the market town.

Eastnor Castle

This 19th-century castle has got to be seen to be believed. Looking like it's wandered out of a storybook, its construction began in 1811 for 1st Earl Somers. A section of the castle is still occupied as a residence but much is made available for weddings, events, filming locations and public access during the summer months.

With extensive parkland, visiting Eastnor could easily turn into a half-day affair and you'll have to drag yourself away as its architecture is so commanding.

The Woodshed Café

The Woodshed is located right at the entry to Eastnor Deer Park, which played host to the legendary Malvern Classic MTB event for a number of years, but isn’t normally open to cyclists. There’s plenty of seating, both under cover in the “shed” and out in the fresh air, bike racks, a toilet, bins and even free wifi. Dog-walking friends or family will appreciate the dog shower and poo bins. There’s a decent-sized free car park so, if you wanted, you could easily start/finish the circular route here rather than in Great Malvern as I’ve suggested.

On offer from the café are locally-sourced treats, including paninis, samosas, scotch eggs, soups and handmade sausage rolls from nearby Legges of Bromyard. Those with a sweet tooth won’t be disappointed either, with assorted cakes, bakes and ice creams on the menu, including gluten free and vegetarian options. Tea, coffee, hot chocolate and cold drinks are also available. Drinks and food are served in recyclable or compostable packaging and all waste is sorted for recycling.

Nestled at the foot of the Malvern Hills, the market town of Ledbury is superbly situated in the beautiful Herefordshire countryside. Famed for its timber-framed buildings and rich in culture, it is a vibrant town.

Directly east are Bradlow Knoll and Eastnor Hill, their flanks wearing a patchwork cloak of grass and woodland. Beyond this is the main ridge of the Malvern Hills. The popular Herefordshire Beacon and the famous earthworks of British Camp are a magnificent ramble.
