Comments
The castle probably dates from around 1000, was repeatedly destroyed and rebuilt. Then in the Thirty Years' War it was finally destroyed by Swedish troops. Since then the castle has not been inhabited.

Just a quick walk to stretch our legs and have lunch. We spontaneously decide to visit the castle. The €3.50 entrance fee per person is worth it, in my opinion.

With 16 hiking enthusiasts and one four-legged companion, we kicked off the new season at the Burg Hanstein hiking parking lot in Bornhagen. Despite snow, fog, and slippery conditions, our guide expertly led us along the trail.

From here it was about 4.5 kilometers to the Lindewerrablick, above the horseshoe-shaped bend of the Werra river. The stick-making village is located exactly on the border between Hesse and Thuringia.
