View of Lake Schwerin

Highlight • Viewpoint

Both the view and the lake have already been added as highlights countless times. There's no need to recreate every previous meter and clutter up the komoot map. What a pity to miss out on the real highlights!

After the death of the popular Grand Duke Friedrich Franz II - the builder of the castle in Schwerin - his son commissioned the construction of a monumental statue. The object was financed through donations. It is considered the only historical equestrian statue in all of Mecklenburg.

The work of the Mecklenburg sculptor Ludwig Brunow was ceremoniously unveiled in 1893 - in the presence of high-ranking state guests such as Emperor Wilhelm II and Grand Duke Vladimir of Russia, as well as everyone who was of rank and name in the Mecklenburg court nobility. Inspired by the equestrian statues of Roman emperors and the Prussian Elector in Berlin, it was designed according to the typical, mostly military-influenced taste of the late 19th century. The figures of the Grand Duke and his horse stand on a marble base more than 4 m high.

The base is surrounded by allegories of the 4 ruler virtues: strength, justice, wisdom and faith. Two commemorative plaques show events from the reign of Friedrich Franz II - the construction of the new university building in Rostock and the Grand Duke's arrival in Schwerin in 1871.

The monument survived two wars and two dictatorships with great luck. It escaped being melted down for war purposes, the iconoclasm after the end of the war and being scrapped.

Schwerin Castle

Highlight • Castle

This magnificent jewel is located directly on Lake Schwerin. Schwerin Castle is certainly one of the most beautiful in Germany. I couldn't decide which side is the prettiest. Whether at sunset from the lake side or with the beautifully landscaped castle park in the foreground. After the walk, you can also visit the fairytale castle from the inside as part of a guided tour.

Stud Farm Attendant Houses Raben Steinfeld

Highlight • Historical Site

These houses from 1863 (I hope I have noticed correctly) were provided only with different clinker bricks. But that's what makes them look very pretty. Although the construction of the houses also contributed its part.
Was that a common architectural style at that time?
Addendum: It is in Raben Steinfeld a row of houses in English country house style from the 19th century, a grand ducal summer residence in the style of the neo-Renaissance. (Source: Tourismusverein Schweriner Seenland e.V.)

Stör Lift Bridge in Plate

Highlight • Bridge

In 2005, the drawbridge in Plate was converted into a lifting bridge. On the way past the Stör-Wasserstrasse you pass it. A look is worth it.

August 9, 2022,Runde um den Schweriner Innensee
This tour around the Inner Schwerin Lake initially disappointed us a bit. The cycle path went almost exclusively along the road, although on a separate cycle path, but the noise of the inexorably driving cars and nowhere catching a glimpse of the lake, and nowhere a sign, was no fun.
But the last 8 km from Raben Steinfeld we went …

Today was the best cycling weather with a few showers in between. There is so much to discover in Schwerin. I only photographed the first highlights, I definitely have to explore the city on foot.

Another beautiful tour. This time it went better with the BioRad. And Schwerin was also worth a trip. What great places we have in Germany. @BH 3000 and I were totally thrilled. Schwerin is the capital of the state of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern. The independent medium-sized city is the smallest state capital in the Federal Republic of Germany and at the same …

The first 5 km from the starting point are not recommended for normal bikes. Very narrow paths, overgrown through the forest, uphill and downhill, gravel road and mosquitoes without end. Often had to push, feasible for sporty mountain bikers.

Nice route.
Important for touring cyclists:
Do not leave the cycle path between Görslow and Raben Steinfeld ... this section directly on the lake is only passable for mountain bikers.
