Beautiful view from up there. The ascent is a bit exhausting due to the constant uphill, but it is definitely worth it. Up there at the hut you can also take a nice little break.

😎The legend of "Hans the Bold" and the abducted maiden who was eventually miraculously rescued is a captivating story from times gone by. This legend tells of a time when knights, castles and mysterious events captured people's imagination.
The story begins with the brave knight Hans, who was known for his bravery and daring deeds. He resided in his mighty castle, which towered high above the valley and offered an imposing sight. But Hans was not only notorious for his bravery, but also for his stubbornness. One day he met an enchanting maiden of extraordinary beauty. Driven by his passion and determination to possess her, he abducted the young lady against her will to his mighty castle, which from then on became known as Hanskühnenburg.
The imprisoned maiden felt unhappy and alone in the dark and threatening castle. She could not escape, as the castle walls and the guards made her escape impossible. In her desperation, she began to pray, hoping that someone would hear her prayers and free her from this predicament.
Time passed, and the maiden continued to pray tirelessly. Then, one day, during a violent storm, a miracle happened. Lightning flashed across the sky, thunder rumbled, and the rain fell in torrents. In the midst of this chaos and the mighty forces of nature, something inexplicable happened: the castle and Knight Hans literally sank underground. Nature itself seemed to save the maiden.
Overwhelmed with amazement and joy, the maiden realized that her prayers had finally been answered. She took the opportunity and escaped from her former captivity. The Hanskühnenburg, which once towered so imposingly and threateningly over the valley, had disappeared, and in its place only a square rock remained, which from then on served as a testimony to the miracle and the rescue of the Virgin.

From the dam you have a great view over the lake and into the valley, on the walkable wall are niches with seats, perfect for the picnic break, during our visit the boards were ok again and very informative.

March 27, 2025,HWN Tour 31: Von der Sösetalsperre über einen Teil des Baudenstiegs
Today started chaotically. Nevertheless, I somehow managed to get to the hiking parking lot at the Sösetalsperre Dam. My goal today was to get three regular stamps and one special stamp. It wouldn't be a great haul for the distance I'd covered. But let's start with the special stamp. This one was the Wanderer Stempelkasten (Wandering Stamp Box), which was …

Nothing is more constant than a change in position...

You could describe the tour like this or something similar. Our original plan was a slightly shorter round, but the parking lot that was supposed to be there is currently not available due to construction work.

Today we went on a tour from Riefensbeek to Hanskühnenburg. The tour can be considered interesting in its own right; However, it can be viewed as challenging due to the nature of the path. The path consists mostly of scree or wet ground (moorland), so you have to try to find the optimal path. The Hanskühnenburg is interesting and offers …

The report “Hammering, sawing, baking cakes” from the series “Die Nordreportage” on NDR television from 2022 highlights the work of the owners at Hanskühnenburg. This mountain lodge, which lies at an altitude of 811 meters, is the highest forest restaurant in the Harz National Park. My curiosity about visiting there was piqued and hiking friend @Michael planned a circular hike.

From the Wander🅿️ it goes straight over the Vorsperrenmauer and then always at a distance from the bank on the south side of the Sösetalsperre. Past the dam and the lowest point of the tour is reached at the stilling basin (?). Soon it is first on the open slope, then on a stony or rooty path in the forest …
