The Lee Village Green

Highlight • Viewpoint

As English villages in the Chiltern Hills go, this one is one of the most attractive. This is the kind of place I tend to think of when I read Agatha Christie's Miss Marple.

The village name is Anglo-Saxon and means "a woodland clearing". Another little fun fact: Sir Arthur Lasenby Liberty (1843–1917), proprietor of the famous Regent Street (London) store, Liberty & Co., lived here and built a Manor house here in 1900. He was associated with the Art Nouveau style.

Rumsey's Chocolaterie

Highlight • Cafe

Great cake, fantastic coffee and more chocolatey things than you can shake a very tired post-ride stick at. What more could you possible want?

Coombe Hill Trail

Highlight (Segment) • Trail

This is a lovely trail, if you're coming from Wendover direction it starts on the edge of the golf course and climbs up. If you're coming from Coombe Hill it's a right turn at the bottom of the road, then get yourself up onto the grass bank on the right side of the road ready for the turn.

The section has a few roots but it's not highly technical, I ride this on a CX bike and I've ridden it in the dark with a light. The gradient is mostly kind too, there are a few short, sharp bits to keep up the enjoyment levels.

You can meet a few walkers along here and you'll need to navigate this with some skill depending on where you meet if you're going uphill but every time we've ridden here other trails users have been very considerate and given us right of way.

Longdown Hill

Highlight • Viewpoint

This is a great single track that goes up through Pond Wood, past Longdown Farm, and onwards into Pulpit Wood. It can be muddy in bad weather. It is an established trail though and forms part of the Icknield Way Trail, so beware of hikers and other path users.

Chalfont St Giles is a pretty village on the edge of the Chiltern Hills. With a quaint village green and duck pond, stunning timber-framed houses, as well as pubs, cafes, restaurants, shops, and places to stay, it is a great place for a pit-stop or an overnight stay.
