Ankershagen Church

Highlight • Religious Site

neatly layered field stone building with drawn-in, straight choir closure and mighty supporting pillars, consecrated in 1266, one of the oldest village churches in Mecklenburg,
The oldest part of the rectangular choir with a domed cross-ribbed vault and a group of two windows in the east wall, the wider, also rectangular nave was probably built immediately afterwards towards the end of the 13th century, but in the late Gothic period it was converted into a two-aisled, four-bay hall with cross-ribbed vaults by adding a row of central pillars easternmost pillar was placed directly in front of the triumphal arch,
Tower substructure a hundred years later made of brick with a baroque half-timbered tower and clapboard-roofed helmet (18th century), two bells also 18th century.

Window openings and portals as well as east gable in brick, gable between nave and choir decorated with staggered plaster panels, surrounding ornamental frieze on the nave, north sacristy made of brick on a field stone foundation, interior furnishings renewed in the 19th century.

Wood baptism with flat fittings carving (1618), neo-Gothic altarpiece on the south wall "Resurrection of Lazarus", neo-Gothic pulpit, brick altar table, choir separated as a winter church, valuable frescoes from the time of construction, triumphal cross,

Lütkemüller organ 1874.

There is a war memorial in the churchyard, which was laid out as a cemetery; outside in the east there is also a modern mourning hall.

Mühlengraben

Highlight • River

The Müritz National Park Office regularly checks bridges and paths in the park for traffic safety. After inspecting the hiking trail near Ankershagen, it was decided to dismantle the aging bridge over the Mühlengraben. The new stream crossing will be ensured in the form of stepping stones. The stream carries little water, so the field stones are a safe and attractive solution.

The Havelquelle is always worth a look. A good place to rest with some information on information boards. A little further away is a beautiful bathing area with meadows and shady spots under trees. There is also a jetty.

A visit to the Müritz National Park was on the agenda today. The national park is 322 km² in size. We just happened to choose the area near Ankershagen because that is where the source of the Havel is and we wanted to visit this source 😊
We also learned that the source of the Havel is actually difficult to …

There is currently an exhibition about Bismarck in the Schliemann Museum in Ankershagen. We have to admit that we knew very little about the "Bismarck myth" and his impact on Germany, Europe and the colonies.
So we went. Afterwards we took a quick walk to the swimming spot in the middle of the forest, which is one of our favorite …

A small, very scenic route with many sights such as the Schliemann family house (today opening of a special exhibition www.schliemann - museum.de), the Ankershagen fieldstone church from 1266, the Havel spring and also the salt road.....

It was very amusing when suddenly a 70 year old slid down the slide (tail of the horse) 😄. Everyone who was there clapped and cheered. You are as old as you feel 😎
