Bockelmann's Sheep Barn

Highlight • Monument

Shortly after the heather areas were linked in 1870/1871, which have been owned by Hof Bockelmann since then, this sheepfold was built. The sheepfold is now a monument and was renovated in 1999.

Surface of sand, presumably worn out by tanks, on which "no herb grows". Like on the beach.

Suhorn Hut and Viewpoint

Highlight • Mountain Hut

The hut towers above the unique landscape. In that respect, a great break. A real off-road highlight in combination with the Suhorn Trail.

Cycling through the heath is really great. You just have to be aware that the paths are sometimes quite sandy and you can get stuck sometimes.
So plan a shorter tour.

Lüneburg Heath Nature Park

Highlight • Natural

The Lüneburg Heath Nature Park is a unique landscape in the Lower Saxony Geest region. This region between Buchholz and Soltau boasts extensive heathland, moors, clear heath streams, and near-natural forests. The Wilseder Berg and the adjacent terminal moraine ridge in particular offer an impressive backdrop for hikes and exploration. Traditional heathland management has resulted in beautiful dwarf shrub and juniper heaths, which benefit from extensive maintenance measures.

View from Wilseder Berg

Highlight • Viewpoint

On foot or by bike, both easy to do!

But it used to be different here! There was a huge stock of trees, mostly oak trees - and you can find them again in Hamburg now... the entire warehouse district was built on these oak piles. Hence the great foresight today.

Wilsede Village

Highlight • Settlement

The picturesque heath village of Wilsede is closed to motor vehicles and can only be reached on foot, by bike or by horse-drawn carriage. There are several old farms here and you can learn a lot about life in the Lüneburg Heath in the “Dat Ole Hus” museum. There are several inns where you can eat and drink.

From Wilsede two paths lead southwards to the ground of the dead. Once there, you have a great view over the heath and far beyond - absolutely recommendable! Interesting for mountain bikers: From the vantage point, several trails lead down: the Totentrail, the Holzbergtrail and Steingrundtrail. Have fun!

August 30, 2023,🇩🇪 Behringer Heide - Wilseder Berg"23/77"🌥️🚴
The Behringer Heidetour leads from Bispingen to numerous natural beauties and excursion destinations in the Lüneburg Heath. This bike tour takes us to the Behringer Heide, to the headwaters of the Brunau, to Niederhaverbeck with the nature information center, to Wilseder Berg, to Wilsede and to Totengrund.

Showing Translation

It is not recommended to cycle around Totengrund.

A very nice tour, although a shorter one is better on the heath. I had to push my bike around Totengrund, Hermann Lönsweg. It's very sandy, rocky, and interspersed with tree roots.

Showing Translation

To get in the mood today, a short tour through the Lüneburg Heath nature reserve with the highlights of Wilseder Berg, Wilsede and Totengrund.
